While "Flat Rate" is the primary means of
shipping on the CraftMall.com system, there are
several configurable options that effect the way
that the flat rate fee is calculated. The
configurable options include the following:
- Flat shipping charge
- Charge as percentage of the Total Amount
Ordered
- Flat Shipping Charge Per Unit Ordered
- Flat Shipping Charge Based on Product
Weight
You also have the ability to configure any or
all of the options as a combination to suit your
needs. When combining options for final
calculation, the formula is as follows:
SHIPPING =
Rate
+ TOTAL_WEIGHT*Weight_Rate
+ ITEMS*Item_Rate
+ SUM*Percent_Rate/100
Let's go through a step by step walk-through
of the configuration process. First, you must
select which "Flat Rate" method that you wish to
configure. There are a total of two "Flat Rate"
shipping methods available, National and
International.
If you plan to sell your products
Internationally (highly advised), you will need
to configure both National and International
methods. First, select "Flat Rate (National)".
The high values for "Weight" and "Order total"
are to be all inclusive and can generally be
left alone.
The remaining options are Flat, %,
Per item and Per lbs. If you
simply wish to charge a flat fee no matter how
many products are ordered (most common), enter
the dollar amount (minus the $) in the "Flat"
field and press the "Add/Update" button. Let's
say for example, you enter "4.95" in the "Flat"
field as your Flat Fee for National shipping.
The results would be that all orders by
customers who are in the "National" region of
your location will be charged $4.95 for shipment
of their order.

However, if you wish to charge a percentage
of the order total, you may do so by entering
the percentage to charge in the "%" field. You
may also charge a fee per item ordered by adding
a dollar amount in the "Per item" field or
charge by the weight of the product by adding a
dollar amount in the Per lbs field. Lastly,
amounts can be added to the "Flat", "%", "Per
item" and "Per lbs" fields as a combination to
suit your needs. This applies to both the
National and International Flat Rate shipping
methods. To configure the International Flat
Rate method, choose "Flat Rate (Int)" and
configure the "Flat", "%", "Per item" and "Per
lbs" fields as described above.
A more thorough explanation of the "Flat",
"%", "Per item" and "Per lbs" fields are as
follows:
Flat shipping charge:
If you want customer orders to be subject to a
flat amount shipping charge regardless of the
number of ordered products or the weight of the
products, enter the amount into "Flat" field.
Charge as % of the Total Amount Ordered:
If you want the shipping charges calculated as a
percentage of the total amount of products
ordered, enter a value into "%" field.
Flat Shipping Charge Per Unit Ordered:
If you want shipping costs to be calculated
based on the number of items (quantity)
purchased, enter the amount into "Per unit"
field.
Flat Shipping Charge Based on Product Weight:
If you want shipping costs to be calculated
based on the weight of products ordered, enter
an amount into "Per lbs" field. This uses a flat
amount of shipping for each lbs of products
ordered.
All options are also modifiable after
you have added the shipping method. If in the
future you wish to change a value, let's say for
example you originally set the "Flat" field to
4.95 for your "Flat Rate (National)" shipping
method but now wish to change it to 6.95, you
may do so by entering 6.95 into the "Flat" field
for your "Flat Rate (National)" shipping method
and press the "Add/Update" button. |
