The global product options area allows you to
create, modify and delete options for multiple
products at the same time. Let's say for example
you have a large number of products that share
the same option, instead of setting up the same
option manually for each product, you can add a
global option once and have it added to all of
the products automatically. You choose which
products receive the global option by selecting
the category or categories that the products are
listed under. You can access the "Global
product options" page by clicking the left side
"Global product options" link under "Products".
Or you can click the "Global product options"
icon on the main page of your personal
administration area.
To add or modify a global product option:
If you want to modify a global product option,
you should
delete it first and then add the
"modified" option again. To add a new option do the following:
Choose the category or categories that your products are
listed under that you wish to add the option to. Use the Ctrl or Shift key in
combination with your mouse to select multiple
categories.
Once you have selected the category or
categories that contain your products that you
wish to apply the option to, begin by entering
the option details in the option fields.
The syntax for adding global product options
is the same as when you
define it for
one product separately.
It
is recommended to have NO duplicating 'Option classes' for each product to avoid confusion. Leave 'Options list' empty if you want your customer to be able
to enter custom information instead of selecting from options.
If you need the price of the product
to change based on the option that the
customer selects, you can do so by
specifying the following symbols: "=",
"+", "-" and "%".
Let's say for example, your product has
gold thread and gold ribbon as an option
but you need to charge an extra dollar
when a customer selects "gold". You can
do so by creating your product options
and specifying gold as "Gold=+1". With
this configuration, if a customer
chooses "gold" as an option, an
additional dollar is automatically added
to the price of the product.
- Enter the title of the option
class in the Option class cell.
- Enter the option description for
your customer in the Option text
cell.
- If the product already has one
or more options, enter the position
number for the option. The smaller
position number is the product
option which will be placed upper in
the list of product options.
- Do one of the following:
- Enter the options in
the Option list cell.
- Leave the Option
list empty. In this case
the customer can type
appropriate information
in the text field, which
appears on the customer
front end.
|
- Click the "Add to selected"
button.
Once the "Add to selected" button has been
pressed, the option is added to all of your
products that are listed under the category or
categories that you selected.
There are also a few things to consider in
regards to global options such as:
- After you have added an option to a
category or several categories, you can
modify it for a certain product on the "Modify
product" page.
- Global product options will not apply to
new products you add afterward. You should
define product options separately for each
new product.
To delete a global product option:
- Select the product category (categories)
for which you want to delete the product
option class.
- Enter the name of the option class in
the Option class cell.
- Click the "Delete from selected" button.
